With the release of VoiceThread at Penn State last week, one area of concern in light of recent issues at the University is the product’s accessibility compliance. VoiceThread is keenly aware of these issues and it is somewhat difficult to navigate given the multiple levels of media and input it allows users to employ.

For anyone looking for some answers but don’t feel like searching the VoiceThread support page (although it’s REALLY easy to find), I’m providing two pieces of information on this topic. One is a resource and the other is a ‘rumor with a future’:
1. VoiceThread has a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template on it’s website that provides a table on how VoiceThread currently complies with 508 guidelines.
2. I’ve heard from VoiceThread that they are working hard toward releasing a screen reader accessible version of a VoiceThread sometime in January 2011. As VoiceThread releases more on this information, I’ll be sure to get this out to those interested in this service.
